Dr. Kim Mattox, Assistant Superintendent, began her career in education in 1983 as a teacher in Union County Schools. After teaching at both the middle and high school levels, Dr. Mattox received the North Carolina Principal Fellows Scholarship and began her work in administration as an assistant principal in both Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and in Union County Schools. In 2001, Dr. Mattox became principal of Newton-Conover Middle School, in Newton, NC. In 2004, she became principal of Hickory High School, in Hickory, NC. While principal at Hickory High, she also served as an Adjunct Professor at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, NC in the Teacher Education Program.
