Dr. Jeff Cox , Superintendent, began his career as an educator in 1992 as a teacher in Guilford County. In 1993, he returned to his native Alleghany County where he taught English for five years at his alma mater, Alleghany High School. In 1998, Dr. Cox received a Masters Degree in School Administration and relocated to Union County, NC where he served as an Assistant Principal for two years. His subsequent positions as Principal in Union County and later Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction in Lee County provided valuable experience in school administration. Dr. Cox was hired as Superintendent of Alleghany County Schools in August, 2005.
 
Dr. Cox is involved with a number of educational and community boards and associations, including the NC Association of School Administrators, the Northwest RESA Superintendents' Council, and NC State Superintendent's Executive Board. He serves locally on the boards of the Blue Ridge Business Development Center, the Miles Job Fund, and Channel 50 Board of Directors.
 
Dr. Cox tries to make all decisions based on "what is the best solution for our children." His goals each day are to recognize and appreciate each child as in individual, to equip our students with essential skills and attitudes for living a productive, useful, and satisfying life, and to develop in each one the desire to be a lifelong learner.
